So what makes you happy!?

Consumption does have an affect on happiness in the sense that consumption, especially within individualistic and collectivistic societies, do have an affect on one’s well being. Although, individualistic cultures consume more so than collectivistic societies, they tend to have an overall higher subjective well being, or happiness, due to being able to pursue their own personal agenda towards happiness. However, there are different forms of consumption that yield a varying boost in happiness. Consumption of material goods will increase happiness for a short- term gratification. Meanwhile consumption of leisure will yield a greater boost of happiness since leisure spending is usually with friends and family, in which also decrease feelings of loneliness and depression. By investing time and energy in people, hobbies, and activities that we love, we feel a greater sense of happiness because we are social creatures and thrive best in the company of others. We thrive best when we do things that make us happy and in return, share that happiness and joy with others. A good life is a happy life.

So go ahead and treat yourself to that vacation you've been wanting to go on for a while now, or treat yourself to seeing your favorite artist live because we only have one life so might as well live it up! These experiences are what shape who we are and contribute to our overall well being. If there is anything I have learned with my short time on Earth, it is that people come and go, and so does money, materialism, etc. The things that we worry about are all temporary; you and I are temporary beings. I believe people should pursue their hobbies and dreams at least once in their lifetime. Chase your passions and you will be reward with a greater sense of fulfillment and overall happiness!
